UPC’s outreach on biomass-based hard carbon battery anode material at the Future Battery Forum 2025 and Global Battery Alliance Annual assembly

UP Catalyst participated in the Future Battery Forum held on 25th and 26th of November 2025 in Berlin, one of the leading EU events focused on battery technologies and value chains. The company was present with an exhibition booth, where it showcased its biomass-based hard carbon and CO₂-derived carbon materials, including battery-grade graphite and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with 2-pagers. The materials attracted strong interest from visitors, leading to follow-up discussions (see pictures) and ongoing sample evaluations with potential customers and partners. In addition, UP Catalyst COO Teele Niidas (see pictures) was invited to speak on a main-stage panel in the session on 26th of November about “Green growth or green burden? How can Europe close the gap in the global green transition?”, where she joined other experts to discuss the evolving European battery policy landscape and its implications for industry.

As well, UP Catalyst participated in the Global Battery Alliance Annual Assembly on the 9th and 10th of December in Brussels, a major international event bringing together policymakers, government representatives, automotive companies, and battery industry leaders to discuss the future of the global battery value chain, with a strong focus on sustainability, regulation, and transparency. UP Catalyst’s CCO Florian Wunsch (see picture below) contributed to the programme by taking part in a discussion on the future of the battery passport and its practical impact. He highlighted that, while the battery passport is an important tool for transparency, its effectiveness depends on clear regulatory enforcement. He also stressed that there is no “green premium” in the market, and that sustainable materials must compete on performance and cost to achieve large-scale adoption.
